It was a beautiful day for a run yesterday. It didn’t look promising when I got up, very wet and windy, but a few minutes after I got out onto the road the sun started peeking through the clouds and by the end of my run it was a sunny, though still breezy, warm day. I did find I was much slower this week than I was on the same route last week, probably because I had a week’s worth of training in my legs instead of 2 rest weeks. However, it’s clear that my body is reasonably comfortable running 10km so it’s time to start adding to that distance.
For whatever reason, I had real trouble judging how many calories I’d had to eat as I was going along yesterday. I just kept thinking I had not had enough to eat and trying to take in more calories, even when I was full. I thought my breakfast was low in calories for the amount of exercise I had planned, so I put milk and sugar in my two large cups of tea. It was the usual routine after my run yesterday afternoon: get in, stretch, eat, shower, then sleep. Also as usual, I wasn’t terribly hungry right after my run, and I struggled to finish the large portion of chilli I had served myself. Oddly enough, I woke up from my nap not feeling too peckish but felt I really should eat more, hence the toast and lemon curd, which is a treat I rarely allow myself. I was hungry for my dinner, and decided that what I needed was more carbs, so made some gluten free stuffing to go with the roast vegetables. This despite knowing we would be having wine with dinner and a 300+ calorie dessert!
So clearly an instance where I should have listened to my body and not eaten so much. I would still have topped 2500 calories for the day, but not 3000, and they would have been calories I truly enjoyed eating.
