Managing the Damage

I was actually pleasantly surprised with how my eating went yesterday. I knew we were going for dinner at The French Table restaurant last night, which has the most wonderfully rich food running high to foie gras, cheese, dessert and wine. So I was careful earlier in the day, especially with the amount of fat I ate, and made sure to get plenty of vegetables. I also did a very intensive tempo run, managing to run the first 2Km at over 10Km/h for the first time, though that meant I staggered through the rest of my run.

As it turns out, my menu choices were not as high in fat as I thought they would be. I’m guessing from averages of similar foods of course, but skipping the foie gras starter and the cheese course before dessert seems to have kept the total amount of fat in my meal below 37g. I also managed to get almost 88g of protein, so I easily hit my 25% of calories from protein target! The bad news is that I still managed to top 1200 calories in a single meal, which is quite impressive and somewhat surprising to me considering I never felt overly full. The good news is that the last time I ate here I had over 1500 calories, so this is an improvement!

I think this is why God in his wisdom has not made me a wealthy woman, because given a choice I would eat this way every day, and clearly I have no sense of how many calories I’m getting. No amount of exercise is going to keep thrice daily 1000 calorie meals off!
