Looking back at 2011

Yesterday I finished 2011 in style in more ways than one. I certainly enjoyed seeing in the New Year with Champagne and canapés but I also went for a run where I ran the longest I’ve ever gone before without walking or stopping!

I did OK in 2011 at achieving most of my health and fitness goals. I had surgery on my bunions on both feet in February, and by September I was able to run a 5 Km race in less time than the year before, not to mention I can now run for almost an hour without walking or stopping. I did put on over 10 lbs and 5% body fat as I was recovering from the surgery but I’ve managed to lose 4 or 5 of those pounds and 3% body fat in the last three months. Just as importantly, I’ve gotten back into most of my clothes. I was hoping to have lost all 10 of those pounds by Christmas but slow and steady is more likely to stay off. I will do my monthly weigh and measure tonight, but if I’ve managed not to put on weight while eating 2500 calories a day (or more!) for the past 3 weeks, I’ll be happy with that.

I’m glad I had such a good Christmas season and feel truly blessed to have enjoyed so much good food. Having said that, I’m just as glad that we have finished almost all of the treats and I am looking forward to getting back to my normal, healthier diet. I hope December 31st is the last day I eat more than 2000 calories (and drink so much alcohol!) for a long time!
