Done in by the chocolates - again

I thought I was doing better yesterday, but perhaps not as well as I thought. Both my husband and I were quite tired when we got home so decided to have leftover chilli and chips from the night before. I was smart enough to take smaller portions, so instead of 625 calories my dinner had about 500, but it was still high in fat, especially with the Baileys filled chocolates for dessert (a belated Christmas gift). I just can’t seem to say no when there are chocolates in the house!

I had already had a bit of dark chocolate after lunch and a Sponser Protein Snack bar after my workout (with roasted peanuts, caramel and chocolate nougat, it’s a candy bar in disguise) so I thought I had tamed my sweet tooth for the day. Until I found myself unable to resist the chocolates after dinner. In fact my sweet tooth seems to be in overdrive since the excesses of Christmas. I’m torn between actually planning to have dessert every night after dinner and trying to give up all sweets for a week or two and getting it out of my system. Over the long term I know deprivation does not work so I would be better off planning to have dessert and arranging the rest of my diet accordingly so it doesn’t throw everything off track. However, maybe a little sugar detox would get the cravings out of my system and re-instate sugar as an occasional treat rather than a daily diet staple.

Something to think about as I head into my rest week next week!
