Feeding my Fear

I had a very relaxing and enjoyable day yesterday. Woke up late and had a leisurely breakfast before going for a swim with my husband. Got back, had lunch, then took a nap. Puttered around for a bit before having an early dinner as we were going to the theatre later.

My brother and sister in law had bought us tickets to see the play “The woman in Black” for Christmas, which is known as “the most terrifying live theatre experience in the world”. It was a brilliant play, with great acting and a good use of the set, but it certainly lived up to its billing! As usual I ordered a drink when we got to the theatre and my husband got us a bag of Minstrels to share during the show, which I thought would be ample treats for the evening. However, the atmosphere of tension and fear during the play had me so nervous I was mainlining the chocolates without a second thought, so they were gone well before intermission. Where I got an ice cream and can of Pringles so I could continue to sooth my nerves!

Clearly I have stress eating issues, though I have to say my treat choices were particularly poor last night as well. I know half of a big bag of Minstrels is 400 calories, but who knew one tiny 130mL pot of ice cream could have 280 calories and almost 15g of fat (though given that, it’s no wonder it tasted so good!)? Having said that, it was very exceptional circumstances and all the sugar and fat was partially offset by the rest of my diet yesterday and the swim in the morning. And I’m sure the sugar rush contributed to my enjoyment of the evening!
