Redistributing My Calories

I think my comment yesterday about not getting enough calories during the day was closer to the truth than I originally thought. Yesterday I was in London for several business meetings followed by a catch up with some friends. Lunch was bit late and lighter than I anticipated – apparently I only got about 300 calories. Then I didn’t get my afternoon snack until 5pm, when I was starving. I did start with cherries and yoghurt, but I had stopped to pick up a couple of things in the grocery store on my way home and was unable to resist the chocolates on sale. And as I’ve demonstrated on numerous occasions, chocolates are a binge food for me; I can never eat just one or two. Thank goodness it was a small box!

I don’t mind the white chocolate mousse and one drink after dinner last night, that was an entirely appropriate Friday night treat, but an entire box of chocolates was 550 calories and 36g of fat I didn’t need. Normally I strive for three meals of about 450 calories each and two 200 calories snacks, one of which will usually be a recovery shake or bar after my workout. This means that I will have had 1100 calories after lunch and 1300 after my afternoon snack. However, I might need to re-think this even distribution, and have a few more calories earlier in the day and a lighter dinner. If I have at least 500 calories at lunch and few more calories in my snacks I’d still be around 1800 calories a day and maybe I would be better able to resist evening snacking. It’s worth a shot!
