As I mentioned in a previous post, it was my birthday last Friday. My husband and I didn’t really have plans, which was a good thing as we ended up spending it helping the family sort out the possessions of the relation who died. Very strange day!
Anyways, we decided to celebrate my birthday yesterday instead. After doing some work in the morning, I went for a massage at 3pm, followed by a bit of shopping. But the real reason for celebration was that we managed to get reservations at The French Table restaurant at short notice. This is an incredibly good restaurant, one of the best in London, but it happens to be just down the road from us in the middle of suburbia. Being a fine restaurant, they are very accommodating to gluten free as most of the dishes are made from scratch when you order. And the food is to die for! We started with a raspberry champagne cocktail while perusing the menu and wine list. I decided on the duo of foie gras, with a glass of the recommended dessert wine to go with it – divine. This was followed by venison wrapped in ham with an excellent Cotes de Rhone red wine. We then decided to follow the French tradition of having the cheese before dessert, with yet more wine.
I have to point out that the nutritional information is even more of a guess than usual, as I really have no idea what half the ingredients would be in many of these dishes. I’m guessing plenty of wine in the sauce and cream in the foie gras mousse, but there really is no way of knowing. However, I am pretty confident in my calories estimates - needless to say it was not a low calorie outing, but so very worth it!
