Making the Most of Leftovers

I don’t think this week is going to be all that different from last week; I foresee a lot of treats and rich dinners. Such as yesterday’s lunch of pâté on toast and pumpkin pie, followed by turkey and butternut squash risotto for dinner. At least I can say we are making the most of our Christmas leftovers! However, the real problem I had was the urge to snack on whatever came to hand while reading in the early evening. I had my afternoon snack as usual at 5:15 but that just didn’t seem to do it, and in less than an hour I went through over 665 calories. Mostly from simple sugars and fats, which led to the second problem of once again not getting enough protein.

I will be starting to exercise again this week, which will help with all the excess calories. However, I think I’d also better start dialling back on the junk food as well. If I can at least reduce the calories by 100 per day for the next week I should be able to start the New Year at my usual 1800 calories per day. On the plus side my husband has been making noises that we should do a mini detox for the next three days, skipping the chocolates in favour of vegetables and such. It would be nice if it happened, but we still have cookies and lots of cheese and pâté left, and I just don’t see us letting this much good food go bad (or throwing it away).

I don’t know what would be worse: to just massively overeat for the next 3 or 4 days and get it over with, or to just eat an extra 300 calories a day for the next month!
