You Know its Christmas when . . .

. . . you find yourself eating fine cheese and pâté for lunch. I was having a difficult day and there seemed to be nothing in the fridge (grocery shopping was planned for the afternoon) except the fine cheeses, pâté and smoked salmon mousse we had bought for an afternoon snack on Sunday (where I managed to limit myself to some cheese and crackers). I thought about making something from scratch then just said screw it. I have to say having crackers with cheese, chutney and pate for lunch was delightful, especially with a Christmas fruit cake chaser. Which is pretty much how I ended up with such a high calorie count for the day. I thought I wasn't doing too badly when I put the salmon mousse back and added some raw tomatoes, but including the cake, that lunch was 882 calories and over 42g of fat, with only 22g of protein (somehow I thought the pâté would have more protein in it). This compared to the turkey cottage pie I had for dinner with 310 calories and 23g of protein per portion. And while I quite enjoyed the red wine I had last night, I really didn't need that second glass.

Ah well, ‘tis the nature of the season. And when you subtract the 360 calories I burned in my workout, I’m only just over 1800 calories for the day. Good thing I’m up for a run today though!
