Christmas Eve and Christmas Day

I hope everyone enjoyed a very Merry Christmas eve and Christmas day. I certainly enjoyed my Christmas Eve day, as we had people over in the evening for a non festive chilli con carne. I tried to contain the madness by getting enough healthy foods earlier in the day, and not snacking on sweet treats until later. Of course, I have to say that everything noted here after 6pom is really a guess. I could easily have had a few more quality streets than I remember, or another glass of wine.

This post is a day late but I hope you will forgive me for not posting on Christmas day, as I had better things to do like opening gifts and feasting! I also quickly discovered that my usual  weighing, measuring and recording everything I ate put a damper on the festive mood (after all, Christmas Day food is all about excess) so there will be no Christmas Day post. Suffice to say that I’m sure my Christmas Day diet involved well over 3000 calories, with plenty of Champagne and sweet, fatty treats. (By the way, Mrs. Crimble has the best gluten free mixes for stuffing and pie pastry). I was actually feeling a bit ill by the time we went to bed, from so much rich food and alcohol. Though my husband did insist we go for a run together at 11am on Christmas morning, which got us out of the house for over an hour and burned a good 600 calories.

The good food certainly continues this week though, with my husband planning a butternut squash risotto with the leftover turkey today, and plenty of pumpkin pie and sugar cookies left. Fortunately I think I’ve got a few more days before I get sick of rich food and start to crave a salad!
