Adding up the treats

Not the healthiest day yesterday, despite my managing to keep the calories down. I did get enough fruit and veg, but that is the best that can be said of it. I was trying to have a more vegetarian day, so the only meat I got were the slivers of ham in my pea soup. The problem with vegetarian days for me is always getting enough protein. I’m having enough trouble keeping the protein over 20% on a normal day, what with all the sweet treats I’ve been having. Only 13% of my calories came from protein yesterday, compared to the 25% I’m shooting for.  And I don’t think it being a low calorie day was all that good, since almost 700 calories of those calories (35%) came from cookies, candies and sherry. Which means I was probably short of nutritious food.

I think I need to make a greater effort this week to ensure I’m getting enough healthy food at my three main meals of the day. As I’ve said before, I’d rather add the treats to my normal diet, have 2400 calories a day and more than enough protein and vitamins, than only have 2000 calories a day but most of that be sweet treats. I’m more likely to gain weight, but that was probably going to happen anyways with all the white sugar and white flour products I’ve been eating. And it will ensure that I stay healthy, with everything my body needs to recover from the workouts I’ll be doing this week.

I’ll still be baking Christmas goodies though, so check out my extra recipe posts!
